Knights of Columbus 4th Degree

Fr. Schumacher is a Fourth Degree Knight and supports the work, spirituality, and comradery of the Knights of Columbus.  Vivat Jesus!

The Knights of Columbus have been called “the strong right arm of the Church,” and have been praised by popes, presidents and other world leaders, for support of the Church, programs of evangelization and Catholic education, civic involvement and aid to those in need.  Knights are Catholic men, 18 years of age and older, who are committed to volunteer service and Catholic fraternalism.

The Knights of Columbus Honor Guard enhance the liturgies at Christmas Vigil Mass, Christmas Midnight Mass, and Easter Vigil Mass.  They provid a level of honor and dignity to those liturgies that would not otherwise have been possible.

Among the more recent accomplishments of the Knights are the Lenten Fish Fries, the proceeds of which have gone toward the purchase of tables and air conditioning for the cafeteria.  The Knights, through a series of fund raising activities, contributed heavily toward the construction of the marquee, which sits on the corner of our church property.  For years, the parish has had “The Can Trailer,” which is provided by and cared for by the Knights of Columbus.  The sale of aluminum cans has provided thousands of dollars to St. Joseph School for tuition scholarships.

A Daily Mass is offered for all deceased members and their spouses?  Did you know that members and their spouses each receive an accidental death life insurance policy worth up to $2,500.

The Knights provide a variety of programs including youth free throw contests, pro-life poster contests, youth essay contests, scholarship programs, financial aid and moral support to seminarians, perpetual rosaries, and so much more.  They also have programs in place that recognize individual members as well as entire families for their outstanding dedication to their church and community.

The Holy Father, on the 25th anniversary of his pontificate during a private audience with the Supreme Directors of the Knights of Columbus, summed up the Knights when he said, “On this occasion I wish to express once more my deep gratitude for the unfailing support which your Order has given to the Church's mission.  This support is shown in a special way in the Vicarius Christi Fund, which is a sign of the solidarity of the Knights of Columbus with the Successor of Peter in his concern for the universal Church, but it is also seen in the daily prayers, sacrifices and apostolic works of so many Knights in their local Councils, their parishes and their communities.”  Pope John Paul II
