Center Philosophy

We believe and recognize that each child is a unique individual.  Each individual is different and each has something special to offer to others.  Here at St. Joseph Early Years Learning Center our goals and curriculum are based on the whole child:  the social, emotional, and intellectual and physical development of each child.

We recognize that children learn best by doing.  The daily activities are planned with the children's developmental levels in mind.  The activities are designed to allow the children to express themselves and to foster self-confidence.  A self-confident child is a happy child; a happy child is an active child and one who is ready to embrace the world.

The process of learning in the early childhood years is more important than the content of learning.  We focus on the process and not on the end product, the activities are designed to emphasize the experiences children are having rather than what results from the activities.  So, the painting is more important than the “tree” that was painted.  Manipulating the Legos is more important than the “house” that was built.  Helping children learn how to learn and to feel good about themselves is what our program is all about.
