***Textbook: Saxon Publishers, Inc.
This math curriculum includes a wide variety of mathematics activities. Students will learn through hands-on experiences, discussions, and exploration. New concepts will be reinforced through review and practice.
***The Meeting
This is a practice of a wide variety of every day skills. Students assist in asking questions about the calendar, time, temperature, pattern of the day, problem of the day and money.
***Number Facts
Number facts are introduced using fact strategies and are practiced throughout the year. The students compete only against themselves and strive to improve their own scores on fact sheets. Students are encour-aged to practice the number facts at home through games and activities.
***New Concepts
Through guided written practice new concepts are practiced after each lesson, as well as a review of past concepts studied. The students complete and correct Side A of a practice sheet in class. Side B is home-work, and should be reviewed and corrections made. The examples are similar to those on Side A.
***Assessments
Assessments of progress occur every five lessons. Each written assessment includes skills that have been practiced throughout the year. We will strive for 80% mastery on all assessments. Any missed objectives will be reviewed and retaught. During conferences, observations and progress will be shared with parents.
